SEASON 2 EPISODE 3: IMPOSSIBILITY

Richard is at the floating market, where he trades the rubbish in his pockets for food and information. He finds Door auditioning bodyguards and she is furious that he’s come to London Below; all he wants is his life back. Door abandons him, but reconsiders. They have to find the Earl’s Court train, and Croup and Vandemar don’t like the direction their employer is steering them in.

This episode was recorded on 6 February 2021.

Show notes

It’s Waitangi Day! Find out more about it here.

We recommend Stuff the British Stole - another fantastic podcast by Marc Fennell. (Jenn D has been a fan for a while.)

More info on the shrunken head episode.

March 15 Attack - here’s the royal commission.

Galavant - Jenn D loves almost anything that is anachronistic and irreverent. This show fits the bill.

We love Mad Max Fury Road! We spoke about the film, and here’s an article how it was storyboarded (almost like a graphic novel)!

Also Jenn D loves that George Miller was adamant that it not look like any old action film that he tasked his wife Margaret Sixel with the editing. (She won an Oscar for that, by the way.)  There’s a cool interview here.

Various names for esky, chilly bin, cooler, cooler box… they’re this thing.

The terrifying escalators at Angel tube station. (They’re not the longest in London—there are some longer at Heathrow, apparently—but they’re the longest of the Tube station escalators.)

Love Actually - we touched on some of the fat-shaming, but Lindy West covers almost all of the flaws of this holiday favorite in this article she wrote for Jezebel.

We talk about how it’s not okay to compare skin colors to food. It’s gross and objectifying (but surprisingly common in a lot of fiction). And look, you could just google it, but there’s a nice little breakdown with some resources here.

Hand of Glory!

We would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land where this episode was recorded - the Guringai and Darug people, and tangata whenua of Te Whanganui-a-Tara.

Our intro and outro music is by the excellent Scott Buckley. Check him out here.
